For the past several years, I have become more and more deeply aware of the healing role of Classical music, which has sustained me though so many seasons of my life.
Having done my best to pass on the wonderful aural tradition to my son, Matthew...when I heard that my daughter-in-law, Christina, was pregnant With her first child (my first grandchild), it came to me that I would like to honor this child with a lasting gift of what I have grown to believe is one of the most life-affirming of human endeavors.
Inspired by J.S. Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier", a series of Preludes and Fugues arranged according to key, I decided to record music written by a variety of my favorite composers, similarly arranged, to soothe and nourish this yet unborn child with the same music that had always been there for me.
The idea of ordering the keys was a rather informal way
of organizing the recording and, also, of helping to influence her young,
malleable mind to hear tonal relationships between the various modes.
